Domu de Orgia

Esterzili (Città Metropolitana di Cagliari)

In the Barbagia di Seulo, the nuragic sanctuary of Domu de Orgia is the largest rectangular temple brought to light so far in Sardinia.

THE LARGEST MEGARON TEMPLE

The complex stands on Monte Santa Vittoria, in the territory of Esterzili, in an area rich in domus de janas, nuraghi, temples and giants’ tombs.

Domu de Orgia develops around the megaron temple, built in the Recent Bronze Age (1350-1150 BC) over an earlier nuragic village.

Today the temple forecourt, the entrance with lintel and the two inner rectangular rooms can be seen.

After the nuragic phase the place continued to be frequented in Roman times.

THE TERRITORY

The temple stands in a mountainous area of the Barbagia di Seulo, near a path used by livestock in transhumance.
